When hillbillies get an internet connection: News-Leader.com | Sound Off on diversity

Some of the gems so far:

Diversity = loosing a war:

We would be speaking German or Japanese now if this crap was around 60 years ago.

One positive stereotype undoes a negative:
Does Springfield need more minorities? It largely depends upon the minority you're referring to. The hispanic community seem to be a hard working group for the most part and generally pleasant to be around. As for the black community, it just is what it is and there's not too many positive aspects to it.

Highly edumacated response:
No I do not believe that the community needs to be more Diverse if you want to see crime go up then stay on the path that you are on,bring in the minorities and you will see this happen like the person befor me said if they wanted an education it is there for them and probably for a discounted price becouse of there ethnic back ground .

I watched Batman Begins recently. I must say it was an excellent movie and an even better "comic book" movie. The film did an excellent job showing how a "superhero" could be real, or at least how a real person could be a superhero.

Progress... yay! We pretty much finished up the media room. I still have to paint and install the quarter-round molding for the ceiling, but otherwise it's a functioning media room. Jennifer's scheming for art to go on the walls as well and we're discussing window treatments. I cancelled my Dish Network just before we started the project. I'm investigating going with DirectTV or local cable... Which ever I can get the best HD deal and free installation (I hate getting under the house).

Everyday I loose faith in humanity. Below is a picture of my truck sans some paint and clearcoat. Some coward keyed my truck while I shopped this evening. @!#$^&$%&@#!%*%^!

What a great ride in this morning. It wasn't cold at all and I got to work in good time, around 40 minutes. I was passed by an handful of cars and they all gave me plenty of room. I chose a more direct route this morning, my fear of traffic is subsiding. I stayed on secondary roads but some where more high traffic than others. I rode Barnes from Bennett all the way to Cherry, and took Cherry to Patterson, then hit Chestnut for the last leg. I stayed a part of traffic until Chestnut when I took the sidewalk.

The progress on the media room is slow. Jennifer hasn't been feeling well and I've been occupied with other things... and I hate painting. It should be done this weekend, however. What is painted however really looks good.

I'm going to bicycle commute in the morning and I'm very much looking forward to it. I bought a cheap-o mirror from Wal-Mart, as well as a C02 canister pump. I also got a better bike lock and one of those bright yellow saftey vests. I also added some reflective tape to the frame of the bike. People may laugh when they see me, but I'd rather they laugh and SEE me, than not laugh and run me over! On the plus side it appears the weather is going to be very cooperative. And I remembered to buy travel sized personal items for getting ready at work.

I spent about an hour in one of the local O'Reilly stores talking about how to rig up a 12V lighting system on my bike. There are several driving/fog lights that would work for my application. The only question is on the batteries. I can buy a small ATV/Watercraft sealed-lead battery, it just didn't have any specifications on the box so I don't know if it would hold up. I'll be doing a little more research on the product and see if I can make it work. The guys at the store were really helpful and interested in the idea. I also helped them with some problems they were having on the thin-clients we have installed at the stores. There was one problem I couldn't figure out that I'll get some more expertise on when I get back into the office.

We're probably going to tackle our kitchen remodel more seriously after the media room. I've already started sanding down the cabinet doors. I'll do the same to the cabinet faces before we spray a nice new bright white paint on them. New hardware will be in order as well. Following that we'll probably be replacing the countertops as well as the dishwasher, or as I like to call it, the loud-noise-making-machine. We'll opt for something a little more "quality" to hopefully reduce the noise output. I did some research and apparently there's no real home-brew solution to reducing the sound output of cheap dishwashers.

I found a really good article on comparing different bike lights that I thought I would share. Since returning to standard time it gets dark quickly after work. I'll need to upgrad my lighting system before I commute via bike again.
